Artist Marieke Schoonderbeek initiated her plan on making a temporary settlement for Dutch writer Arnon Grunberg in a ruin on the island of Lanzarote. Together we developed the concept into feasible plans and 3D drawings for the construction and a document to convince the municipality.
Because of the monumental status of the building and the site, the added structures couldn’t leave traces. But to make it inhabitable, the site needed a door, a working space, a sleeping area and (solar) power. All these elements where build elsewhere and installed on site. The ‘solar arch’ is placed in line with the path of the sun and has a moving solar panel which casts a shadow on the working space.
